Canoeing? Wye Not...

MPA Financial Management - Tuesday, May 15, 2018

On the 10th May, 19 members of staff travelled to Ross on Wye to embark on a 26-mile canoeing trip down the River Wye – beginning in Hoarwithy and finishing in Symonds Yat. The sun was shining and everyone was in good spirits ready to take on the challenge, but more so thinking of the good food and drink that awaited them at the finish of day 1.

Everything was going swimmingly for the first 30 seconds until Pete and Jess decided to take this phrase too literally and unfortunately took a tumble into the Wye. Thankfully our very own Bear Grylls (Richard Sheridan) was on hand to ensure the castaways were back on course in no time. From there luckily no one else fell in the water and after 12 miles the intrepid canoeists reached the overnight stop in one piece.

The next morning after a cold night some campers were happier than others, however fully fuelled on sausage and bacon we headed off for our final leg of the journey. The wind had picked up from the previous day, which played havoc with the groups navigation as riverbanks and trees acted like magnets for the canoes! It was tough going for all, but despite the conditions we finished the 14 mile stretch with only one small break. Needless to say I feel as though everyone was relieved to step onto dryland!

After a quick visit to the local pub, MPA’s trip was over and the journey home began with many people getting some well earnt rest.

On to the next MPA challenge…Watch this space!
