In November 2023, we heard the awful news that Alfie Mitchell, the youngest son of our ‘PR Guy’ Chris Mitchell, had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. Over the past seven months, having spent 121 nights in hospital and undergone numerous rounds of chemo, Alfie has battled cancer and we were delighted to hear that he is now in remission.

In addition to having Leukaemia, Alfie also has Down Syndrome and during a recent meeting Chris informed us of a remarkable fundraising event that would raise money for a charity that had supported Alfie and his family.

From Wednesday 29 May to Saturday 1 June, Lee Freeman, a personal trainer and friend of Chris, successfully ran 200 miles around Rother Valley Country Park near Sheffield. He completed this staggering distance in under 80 hours!

Lee decided to fundraise for Footprints Conductive Education Centre, a charity that empowers disabled children and their families. Alfie has attended Footprints since he was 6 months old.

Lee had been inspired by Alfie’s courage, determination and positive attitude throughout his treatment, and wanted to fundraise for a charity that has given Alfie so much guidance.

You can read more about Lee’s run in Yorkshire Live here and listen to a radio interview on BBC Radio Sheffield about the 200 mile attempt with Lee and Chris below.

We are proud to have supported Lee’s fundraising efforts through the MPA Charitable Foundation and are delighted to see that Lee has so far raised £6,040 for Footprints!
