We spoke to Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) Jean Hall DipPFS about switching careers, striking the balance between work and family life and what she enjoys most about working at MPA.
How did you get into Financial Services?
“I have 27 years’ experience as an IFA, but I actually began my career as a Chartered Engineer, working within the rail industry. When I became a parent, I decided that I needed a career that fitted in around my two small children, so in 1995, I left the train factory in Washwood Heath, Birmingham and applied to Prudential.
“I started out as a Financial Adviser and stayed with Prudential until I was made redundant six years later. It was then that I decided that I wanted to be self-employed as an Independent Financial Adviser, so I joined a national firm and was with them until I joined MPA in August 2022.”
What is your area of expertise?
“I mainly specialise in helping clients who need pensions and investment advice, as well as guidance on inheritance tax planning and long-term care advice.
For any clients considering financial advice, what would your advice be to them?
“My advice for anyone focusing on their finances is that it is most important to plan for your future at an early stage – the sooner the better.
“I also firmly believe that independent advice is essential to help clients achieve what they want in their lives.”
What do you enjoy about working at MPA?
“I was looking to join an IFA company that cares about their clients as much as I do, and MPA was the perfect fit.
“The team here is so friendly and helpful, and MPA takes pride in offering an efficient and personal service to both the advisers and the clients. I wish I had joined them sooner.”
