The MPA Charitable Foundation were first introduced to the Sutton Coldfield Special Olympics back in January 2019.

Falling under the umbrella of the Special Olympics Great Britain, the Sutton Coldfield Special Olympics has been in existence for over 25 years, growing from strength to strength.

The aim of the special Olympics is to bring the power and joy of sports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  Athletes of all abilities are encouraged to compete at their optimum level, develop fitness and build confidence to succeed in sports and in life.

With regular sports training offered weekly, social and fund-raising events, access to tournaments and competitive events, members pay a £12 per month membership to help to keep the group running.  With many of the additional costs being covered by the charity through numerous fundraising events.

Due to financial restraints there are some members who would like to be apart of the “Special Olympics family” however are unable to afford the monthly membership fee.  Whilst not excluding these members the Sutton Coldfield Special Olympics still encourage these people to attend and ask them to contribute what they can afford, if anything, with the shortfall being covered by what funds are available following fundraising events.

On hearing first-hand the great work of the Sutton Coldfield Special Olympics and the joy that these athletes get from competing, the MPA Charitable Foundation wanted to ensure that the group was available to everyone despite financial difficulties.

We have therefore made a one-off donation to the charity to cover full or partial membership fees for those people with financial restraints to ensure that they can continue to attend without worry, as well as assisting with travel expenses to and from events – something that the charity has gratefully accepted!.
