Family is at MPA’s core and when our Head of Advice, Joe McGovern, heard about a little fighter called Reuben, in his daughter’s nursery class, he wanted to lend his support to help the family reach its fundraising target to cover care.

Two-year old Reuben Mather is currently in Birmingham Children’s Hospital after suffering a stroke in May 2024. The stroke affected the left side of the brain leaving him with very limited mobility with his right arm and right leg. Reuben has also lost the ability to speak and, although showing some positive progress with his sounds, will have to learn to talk again.

Reuben’s family is raising funds to help with his transition from hospital to home. Money raised will go towards physiotherapy, speech therapists and adapting his life at home with a stairlift, wheelchair and other future needs. Anything that isn’t spent on Reuben and his care, will be donated to a Stroke charity.

Through the MPA Charitable Foundation, MPA has donated £250 towards the fundraising the overall target of £12,000. At the time of writing, Reuben’s family have already achieved an incredible £11,000 towards the total.

A huge football fan and Derby County Season ticket holders, Reuben and his family were recently welcomed to the training ground by the management at Derby County Football Club which was a dream come true to Reuben and they hope to make it to the first game of season in August.

Joe McGovern, Head of Advice at MPA, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support this brave young man and his family adapting to life after a stroke. It’s the reason we have the MPA Charitable Foundation, to try and make a small difference, and we wish Reuben and his family all the very best on the road to recovery.”
