Earlier this month, we were contacted by Will Kirkman at The Telegraph who wanted MPA’s expertise to once again help a Telegraph reader with a Money Makeover.

Neil Campbell, 51, wanted advice on whether he should cash in his £284,000 final salary pension as he was concerned that he would breach the lifetime allowance and fall into a tax trap.

Assessing whether Neil would breach the lifetime allowance is impossible to predict as this would depend on the growth his portfolio achieves. To help mitigate against it happening, MPA Independent Financial Adviser John McCreadie provided advice centred around making additional pension contributions, rebalancing his portfolio over time and using a professionally built  model portfolio to help Neil have exposure to the markets whilst spreading investment risk.
