In July, Fiona Thom joined the MPA team as an Executive Assistant to MPA’s Directors Phil and Joe McGovern.
Fiona will support MPA’s leadership team with the growth and expansion of the business and assist on long term projects. Day to day Fiona will handle all elements of operations and office management at MPA, liaising with suppliers, organising and coordinating team events, helping with employee and clients communications and generally be a lynchpin in the smooth running of the office and its facilities.
Fiona comments: “My role at MPA is to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the business and support the Directors in a proactive and professional way to help MPA to reach its full growth potential, ensuring the ethos of Inform, Educate and Inspire are at the forefront of everything we do together, as a team.”
On her reasons for joining MPA, Fiona added: “From my initial interview with Phil, I was instantly attracted to the solid and honest leadership style at MPA. I also thought its vision and ethics were inspiring. The baseline of how the team functions daily really aligned well with my experience and style of working. I also have a keen interest in applying my experience to working within the finance sector, an industry I’ve not worked in before but am interested in learning all about, in addition to deepening my professional and personal development in the process.”
Fiona brings to MPA a breadth and depth of experience across several sectors. After graduating from Chester University with a degree in Tourism Management, Fiona started a career in Event Management and also studied in Barcelona to achieve a CELTA qualification through Cambridge University to teach English as a foreign language. Following that, she spent nine years in London working as an Executive Assistant, supporting C-suite level individuals within Publishing, Media, Luxury Retail and Cosmetics industries. Most recently, over the last seven years, Fiona has launched and run two boutique fitness studios and an online fitness platform in Central London, where she was also Head of Yoga and Pilates.
MPA’s Head of Operations and Strategy, Joe McGovern DipPFS, said: “It’s great to welcome someone of Fiona’s calibre to the MPA team. Her extensive experience will help streamline day to day operations and free up more time to focus on business growth, strategy and planning and, above all, giving MPA’s clients the best service we can.
“Fiona is a firm believer in continued learning in both her work and personal life, this aligns with our ongoing commitment to continuous professional development. We look forward to what we can achieve together.”
Outside of work, now based in Henley, just a short walk from the office, Fiona still teaches Yoga and Pilates locally on weekends and has recently qualified in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage too. She has two active young children under five, who keep her very busy, spreading her time between swimming pools or playgrounds and going out on bikes, however, if she does get a rare opportunity, you might find her playing her guitar or enjoying a nice glass of Malbec whilst reading a book.
